The Lynchburg Peace Education Center has given its 2017 Peace Award to Larry Farmer.
In a program held at the First Unitarian Church on December 31, 2017, Everett Heath, President of the LPEC, made the presentation.

While accepting the award, Larry spoke of early experiences with birding and nature, leading to his biology degrees, college teaching, and taking stands for conservation, peace, and justice.
Since 1983, the LPEC has worked in the area to promote a more peaceful community, region, nation, and world. The organization promotes peace with activities that include hosting international dinners and peace vigils, and awarding the annual Peace Prize to a deserving individual or group.

The Installation Service for The Rev. Daniel Harrison will take place at 4:00 pm at the Church of the Covenant, followed by a reception in the Lodge of the Fishermen. The Reverend Yvonne Riddick of Cary, NC will preside over the installation ceremony, representing the United Church of Christ. The Reverend Amanda Hatfield-Moore, minister of Hillsville Christian Church, will deliver the sermon. Will Cardwell will represent the Church of the Covenant as worship leader.
Rev. Harrison was called to Church of the Covenant in August. He and his wife Ruth, sons Daniel Jeremiah, Elijah, and Isaiah, and daughter Daniela Carolina (Mumu) now live at the parsonage.

The Church of the Covenant will hold a memorial service in celebration of the life of The Rev. L. Donald Morrison on Sunday, September 10, at 2:00pm at The Lodge of the Fishermen. Paul Henderson will conduct the service. There will be a reception after the service. Please join us in honoring the life of this extraordinary man.
Don died at his home on Friday, July 7, 2017. He is survived by his daughters, Teresa and her husband Raymond Kessler of Notasulga, Alabama; Dana Morrison of Glen Allen, Virginia; and Betsy Morrison of Concord, Virginia.

Laurence Donald Morrison, 93, of Appomattox, Virginia, died on Friday, July 7, 2017. He was the loving husband of the late Mary Morrison. The Rev. Morrison was born on December 16, 1923, in Clarksville, Virginia, a son of the late Enoch Perego Morrison and Martha Jean Oslin Morrison. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a minister of Disciples of Christ Christian Churches of Virginia for 20 years. He became a member of Church of the Covenant after his retirement.
